Soarin’ originally opened at Epcot in 2005. The original ride took you over California, in 2016 the ride was update to Soarin’ around the world.
In the ride you are lifted up in front of a giant screen where you feel like you are flying over some of the more popular destinations in the world. This ride does have a height requirement because the seats are not made for small bodys and you are hanging for most of the ride.
Since Epcot does not offer very many rides Soarin’ wait times can get up into the hour range. The nice thing about this ride is that it offers real time trivia while waiting in the line.
Details of how to play along from your phone are show on the screens between rounds. Players are broken into teams and the highest scores are displayed on a screen towards the end of the line.
Once you have made your way down the long hall you are split into groups and placed in lines based on the row you will sit in. Row 1 will be the highest and 3 is the closest to the ground so if you have a fear of heights you could request to be in the 3rd row.
Before you ride there is a short video you watch that gives instructions for storing bags and buckling the seat belts.
The instructor in the video is Patrick Warburton, my kids know him as the voice of Kronk in the Emperors New Grove.
After the video they will begin loading everyone in by rows and making sure everyone is buckled. If someone in your group decide they don’t want to ride they can exit the theater from here. After the ride is over you can meet any of the members of your party who were too short or didn’t want to ride in this waiting area adjacent to the entrance.
Our family loves this ride because you really feel like you are flying. They even bring smells into the theater from some of the locations which really makes this an immersive experience.
