First what is memory maker? This is a package you can add onto your Disney vacation that includes all the pictures take by Disney photo pass photographers, ride photos and table meal photos. They also include you photos from Bibbidi bobbidi boutique or Pirates league if your child participated and videos from rides and magic shots. There are also photo booths through out that allow you to download to your photopass.
Disneys Photo pass is all encompassing. In the parks at Disney World and Disneyland they have photographers set up throughout. You will find them at any of the major hot spots like in front of Cinderellas castle at the Magic Kingdom, the tree of life in Animal kingdom and Space ship earth ( the giant geodesic dome) in Epcot. They are also on hand at the character meet and greets and some of the table service meals where characters are present. There is no cost for the photo pass photographers to take your picture and some will even take photos with your own camera if you ask nicely. They will scan your magic band, park ticket (must be linked to my Disney experience first) or give you a photo pass card. As long as everyone in your party is linked together on MDE, which you should to make fast pass reservations, it won’t matter whose magic band gets scanned.
If you want a copy of the photos they take you will either need to purchase them individually ($15 per picture) or purchase the memory maker which will include all the photos for you to download for one set price. They will put them on a CD for you at an additional fee. As of June 2017 the cost for the Memory maker package is $199 or $169 with advanced purchase-at least 3 days before your trip. If you are an annual pass holder you may already be entitled to “free” photo downloads. The great thing about this service is that your whole family can always be in the pictures. My girls really enjoy the magic shot photos, these are pictures that the photo pass photographers add special animations or cartoons to. Once your vacation is over you have the chance to go on the memory maker website and add borders and themed stickers. You can also turn your photo pass pictures into photo gifts like coffee mugs and phone cases. We have made a few ornaments with ours.
Every trip we have used the photo pass photographers but we have only purchased the memory maker on our most recent trip because we felt we knew enough about it to get out moneys worth. One of our girls was finally tall enough to go on the “big kid” rides so we wanted those ride photos. So this time around we stopped a lot at the photo pass photographers, my 5 year old was sick of taking pictures by the time the trip was done. We asked for magic shots or stopped at the photographers that had extra props like the picture frame. All of the rides that take pictures automatically uploaded to our magic band (there are areas to tap your card/magic band under the photos at the end of the rides) these are great memories of our little ones first ride on some of these. We did also have a few character meals and were able to get all the photos from there as well. We like to dine at Akershus in Epcot and they used to print out your photo to keep but not longer do this so it was nice to have a copy.
Once you are home from your trip you will need to get on the photo pass website and download and edit the photos you are want. They will be available for 45 days from the date taken. The only down side to the photo pass is that they are not everywhere. There are times you will have to improvise to take your own family photos. We rarely have trouble with another guest willing to snap a family picture for us. If you have the room in your budget I would definitely recommend adding the memory maker onto your package!
