*Edit as of January 2021 this game is no longer available and the cards have been retired.
My girls had so much fun playing sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. This family friendly game takes place throughout several lands in the Magic Kingdom. In the game you are essentially becoming Merlin’s apprentice. Hades (the bad guy from Hercules) has enlisted the help of Disney villains to help take over the Magic Kingdom. You will be given cards that will act as your spells. The best part is that this is all included in your park admission.
You will choose one member of your party to be the key master, only this persons magic band will unlock the portal. You go to the fire station on main street to sign up. While there you will be given a pack of spell cards and unlock your first portal while the cast members are still on hand to answer and questions. Then it will give you a symbol at the end of the video and that is where you will find your next portal. All the portals will be marked on the map you are given with its own symbol and that is how you will know where to go to next.
Every member of your party (with a valid park ticket) will be given a pack of 5 spell cards. You can get a new pack of cards once daily as long as you have moved to at least 1 new portal. We went 5 of our 6 days on our last trip and got a decent set of cards between us.
You will locate your next portal on the map, you will know you are in the correct spot because there will be a circle on the ground with the SK and a lock with a key hole (this is where you will tap your magic band). Once you reach each portal you will choose one of your spell cards to try and defeat which ever villain you are up against. There are 3 different levels of game play: easy, medium and hard. You start on easy and have the option to increase difficulty after you defeat Hades and begin a new game.
There are 70 different spell cards you can get plus special cards given out at the Halloween and Christmas parties (special ticketed events).
- The cards can cast different types of spells such as charming, quick or energy.
- You can cast more than 1 spell at a time.
- You can make a card more or less powerful based on how frequent you use it.
The nice thing about being able to cast more than one spell is that the kids weren’t fighting over who’s turn it was. All 4 of us could play our own card and we learned certain card combinations have better results. Depending on how busy it’s in the park you may have to wait a few minutes for the portal to be free. We rarely had to wait but when we did it was just a few minutes. Not every portal will you need to cast a spell but when you do it will show on the screen to cast a spell and that’s when you will need to hold up the card you chose. If you listen to the video sometimes there will be hits as to which card to use.
I have know about this game since it debuted back in 2012 but never stopped to check it out. My kids loved playing this game but that’s also all they wanted to do as soon as we got to the Magic Kingdom. The cards make a great free souvenir and my kids still like to play with the cards months after we have returned from our trip.
