Castaway Cay

On day 3 the ship was set to stop at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. I had signed up for the 5K so I was up before everyone else. The 5k runners meet in Evolution at 8 to get our race bibs and instructions.

Everyone was allowed off the ship at 8:30 but since this was our first time Hubby and the girls stayed back on the ship and slept in. By 9am the race had officially started and I underestimated how humid it could be so early in the morning. The run takes you through a bike trail loop and down an old airstrip. The bike loop is surrounded by trees and plants and didn’t offer much of a breeze and was so humid it made it harder to run. I definitely was questioning whether it was a good idea to run a race on a tropical island. While I was racing the others ate breakfast in the room and got ready for our day on the beach. By 10 o’clock I was headed back on the ship to rinse off and get on my swimsuit.

The girls were so excited as this was their first time at the beach. The water was much calmer than I thought it might be so I didn’t have to worry about the girls getting taken out by a wave. The water was colder than I expected too. The 6 year old wanted to go down the slide at Pelican plunge which you have to swim out to, and by the time we got to the top to slide down we had almost dried off. My oldest spent her time snorkeling in the water while the youngest hung out near the beach looking for the perfect sea shells.  Around 1 we decided to grab lunch at Cookies too the BBQ spot on the island (there is no extra charge to eat here).

Once everyone had their fill of bbq and ice cream we took the girls and dropped them off at Scuttles cove-the kids club on the island. Then hubby and I took the tram up to Serenity bay the adult only area of the island. There wasn’t too much difference here except it was less crowded since kids weren’t allowed. It was pretty boring at this side of the beach so we headed back to pick the girls up. Hubby had planned to watch the Avengers movie this afternoon so he  headed back to the ship with all our stuff to shower and get dressed while the girls and I spent a little bit more time finding seashells. I probably should have reapplied my sunscreen before he took it with him and ended up with a  sunburn on my back and shoulders. The girls and I had a bit of a line to get back on the ship, they offered ice cold wash clothes and had a selection of cold drinks you could grab while you waited which I thought was a nice touch. Once we got back to our room we all rinsed off and got dressed and decided to go check out Vanellope’s sweet shop. The items in the shop are not included in your cruise fair. They have candy in bulk, specialty desserts and gelato. The girls and I opted for the go-cart sundae, it came with your choice of 3 scoops of gelato so we each picked a flavor and 6 toppings that I let the girls choose. It all came in a plastic go-cart, after we ate the sundae one of the ladies sent it through the “car wash” and put it in a bag for us. Since we still had some time before the show and dinner the girls wanted to keep playing the on board detective game. For our evening show we had the choice to see Beauty and the Beast again or Magic Dave. We decided to go see the magician but our 6 year old didn’t want to go so we dropped her off at the kids club first. The magician was great, he was more like a comedian than a magician, not like sawing people in half sort of magic and he had everyone laughing. It was in a smaller club like room of the ship and the show was interactive with kids being chosen to help assist.

The magic show was not as long as the theater show so we went back to the room to relax before dinner. On our way back we picked up the 6 year old from the kids club, she was so excited because she had won a baseball hat from playing bingo! On our way back to the room we walked through the on board art gallery, some of the pieces were for sale too. Just before dinner we got dressed in our last fancy outfit of the trip and headed to dinner at the Royal Palace. While I really enjoyed the food at Animator’s palate, hubby loved the duck he got for dinner here. I didn’t see anything on the menu that I wanted so I just got 2 appetizers and the potato leek soup as my dinner.

Our server didn’t seemed convinced that this would fill me up so he brought us an extra dessert. The girls decided to skip out on dessert again to go play in the kids club. We took our time finishing up dinner and had planned to go to the farewell party but it had been another long day. We got the kids and headed up to deck 11 where the ice cream machines are at and let the girls get a cone since they missed out on dessert. Toy story 2 was playing on the funnel TV next too the pool so we grabbed a seat and watched while the girls ate their ice cream. Since we had to be up early to disembark and go through customs we decided it was time to call it a night and headed to bed.
