Day 2 was our first full day on the ship and our first stop of the trip, at Nassau. Many recognize this island for the popular Atlantis resort.

The boat was set to dock and allow people off the ship at 9:30 so we went up to Cabanas buffet for breakfast and were off the ship just before 10. After debating several options of things to do on the island we decided to check out some of the historic sites and then head back to the ship to swim. I am glad we weren’t planning to spend all day out because it was hot and humid. As we headed in to town we made our way past the groups of locals selling tours and souvenirs to walk to the Queens staircase.

Queens staircase

It was maybe 15 minute walk from the ship just past the local hospital. It was almost a bit hidden if you didn’t know what you were looking for. The Queens staircase is 66 steps to the top and leads to Fort Fincastle. At the top of the staircase we walked just a bit farther and walked around the outside of Fort Fincastle. You could go inside the fort but it we decided we didn’t need to.  The fort was not too big but still neat to see, there were also some great views.

Fort Fincastle

We took a water break at the fort before making our way back down towards the ship. We were back on the ship just after noon. It was nice and hot out so we went straight back to the room to get our swimsuits on. One of the girls really wanted to ride the Aquaduck coaster but it was too windy the day before so she and I went there first. She love riding it, in fact she talked about it for the rest of the day. After playing in the water for a few hours we took a break and had lunch at Cabanas buffet. There was a nice selection of food, plenty for picky eaters to enjoy. After lunch the girls decided they wanted to go play in the kids clubs so hubby and I went back to the room to relax. We grabbed the girls just before show time to change into our fancy clothes. The theater show tonight was Beauty and the Beast. Belle is our oldest favorite princess so she really enjoyed the show. It was another great show but the 6 year old was not as impressed. When we were watching the show the ship was back out on the water and my youngest and I were already beginning to feel seasick again so we took our medicine right away, which is what we should have done the night before.

After the show was over it was time to head up to deck 11 for the Pirates in the Caribbean party. They had a few games for the kids to play before the show started. All the favorite Disney characters were dressed up in pirate attire and the show had singing and dancing. The pirate party ended just in time to head down to dinner, tonight it was at Enchanted Garden. While the food was good there was nothing really special about eating here. Once the kids had finished their food they opted to skip desert and go play in the kids club. So hubby and I enjoyed the later half of our meal kid free.

This was one of the things we liked about the cruise was that even though it was a family vacation we were able to have some time without the kids. The girls don’t really like fireworks so they stayed in the kids club while we went up to deck 12 to watch the fireworks. We sat towards the front of the ship so we missed the pre-fireworks show down on deck 11. Once the fireworks were over we checked the kids out of the kids club and headed back to the room. Since they had skipped desert at dinner we let them order from room service. They both got a Mickey ice cream bar and we each got cookies. Once we had dessert it was bedtime. Tomorrow we were stopping at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.

Check out day 3 with Castaway Cay and finally the beach or read about day 1 or day 4.
