We are traveling to Disney World this summer and will be bringing our 6 month old with us. Any tips for traveling with a baby?

Traveling with a baby can be challenging but being prepared will help make your trip go as smooth as possible. First I would strongly suggest bringing your own stroller, not only will it be more comfortable than the ones you can rent but you can also have it for outside the parks like at the hotel. If you bring a stroller make sure it has a sun shade and can fold easily for taking on the Disney transportation. Now there are some places you can’t bring the stroller like the ride lines and in the restaurants so you may want to bring or invest in a baby carrier. We used the Ergo carrier with our 3 month old and it was great. I could put her in and not have to worry about waking her just to get in line for something. I could even go on some rides without having to take her out.

You should also be sure to take advantage of the baby care centers located in the park. If you are breastfeeding they have nursing rooms here. They have filtered water for making bottles, microwaves for heating food and highchairs so you can feed them. Its also good for getting baby out of the Florida sun and away from the crowds. Double check you have extra diapers, wipes and a change of clothes in your park. The baby care centers and some of the gift shops have diapers and wipes for sale but they will cost a bit more as you are paying for convenience.

The great thing about taking babies to Disney is that they are free! Admission to the parks is free for kids under 3. If you are staying in a Disney resort you can request a portable crib for your room and if you stay in the DVC resorts your room will come with a pack n play and a highchair. If you are wanting baby to experience the rides you just need to make sure there is no height requirement. The best theme park to visit will be Magic Kingdom. This park has the most rides geared for little kids and the most rides without height restrictions. Winnie the pooh and It’s a small world are both great baby friendly rides.

If you are planning to eat at any of the sit down restaurants on property you can make dining reservations and request a high chair. Also make sure you include the baby in the number of guest for your reservation even if they won’t be eating, this is for Disney to keep track for maximum occupancy numbers. Make sure you take plenty of breaks from the sun and try to stick to your normal nap and bedtime routine if possible. Finally take lots of pictures, the baby won’t remember this trip being so little but you will so make sure to capture all those Disney first. Have a great trip!
